To the Glory of God

TO THE GLORY OF GOD was written for a recent sermon series at our church on “serving our community.” Jesus is our ultimate example of this servanthood, and we look to emulate His character. The song is based on Philippians 2:1-11. Verse 11 says that one day, every knee will bow to the ascended Christ, and every tongue will confess Him to be Lord “to the glory of God the Father.” It is not only the ascension of Christ, though, that results in the glory of God. Everything else that Jesus did in that passage was done to the glory of God the Father…His servanthood, His obedience to death, His submission to the Father’s will; all of this was prompted by, and results in, glory to the Father. Now look at the first few verses of Philippians 2. Paul calls God’s people to be of the same love, likeminded, one in spirit and purpose. This heart attitude is also to be motivated by and results in glory to God the Father.
